Before the lifting operation
- Make sure blockades are in place (contractor’s responsibility)
- Agree on secure lifting zones.
- Arrange communication with everyone involved (radio or signal)
- Agree on storage of elements.
- Participate in the contractor’s implementation of SJA.
During the lifting operation
- Ensure that safe lifting zones are maintained.
- Ensure effective communication with everyone involved.
- Use of steering ropes when necessary
- Make sure the slingers pull away before the crane tightens its load.
As a rule, the overhang when using HD clips should never exceed 1.2 meters, and the safety chain should be attached before the crane operator tautens up.
General about element assembly
Safe and efficient element assembly requires good planning, and a good rig plan that ensures terms and conditions for element deliveries and crane work. The area must be walled off by the contractor. Experience shows us that new players in this field have arrived who need us to contribute with our expertise to secure the general terms and conditions. Be “friendly and concise” and set the conditions for a safe execution of the element assembly. Several of the major and professional players work in a manner where the entire raw building must be assembled before other players are allowed into the raw building, which we consider to be an important contribution to increased safety. The more players that are in the raw building, the more challenging it’ll be for you as a crane operator to point out compliance with safe lifting zones. Steering ropes must be used when necessary, and good communication by radio must be ensured if there is no visual contact.
Barriers and lifting zones
- Maintenance of barriers must be taken care of by our client.
- Your task is to point out deviations and set the premises for maintaining safety.
- It must not be acceptable for unauthorized persons to enter the lifting zone without previously being agreed upon.
Storage of items
- Experience shows that storage of elements requires a lot of space, and extra attention must be paid to the storage of walls and allocation of wall cassettes.
- The stability of remaining walls in the cassettes may be affected once a wall is lifted out for installation.
Installation of hollow-core element floor
Use a cast-in lifting device if these are found on the hollow-core element floor. Most hollow-core floor elements must be fitted using grippers and yokes. Normally, the overhang on the outside of the gripper should not exceed 1.2 meters. If the overhang exceeds this, you should contact the contractor before lifting commences. The installers should check that the clamp grips the groove and fasten the safety chain relatively tightly beneath the hollow-core element floor. Make sure the slingers pull away prior to the crane tightening the load before lifting is performed.
Installation of other concrete elements
Normally, embedded lifting contraptions are used at the top of the elements. If a lifting contraption on the side of the element is used, this is a reason to ask a control question. The same applies if the lifting contraption is forgotten during production and when suspicions of uncertainty and improvisation are registered.
