How to Act in Traffic
Each employee carries an extra responsibility when operating the company’s vehicles and machinery in traffic. Our employees must always drive considerately, remain attentive, and act cautiously.
Traffic Safety
- Our drivers must contribute to increased traffic safety, reduce environmental impact, and be good role models in traffic.
- Mobile phones may only be used for conversations via hands-free.
Limitations on Weight, Length, and Width
- There are regulations regarding the maximum axle load, total weight, length, and width of vehicles allowed on roads and bridges. Check information from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration for the specific restrictions applicable to your route.
- Do not drive overloaded, and check road lists for the permitted road class in summer and winter, maximum total weight and combination length, as well as road groups for special transports.
- Ensure that the exemption for your route is included (digital or on paper).
- Required permits must be available.
Tires
- Check tires and tire pressure, and ensure you are equipped for the conditions.
- Use snow chains if necessary.
Sustainability
- Drive economically and avoid idling.
Road Shoulder
Driving far out towards the road edge increases the risk of going into the ditch, especially if the edge is soft.
Be especially cautious in cases of:
- Weather changes – frost to above freezing.
- Road edges/shoulders covered in snow.
- Heavy rainfall.
- Oncoming traffic in curves.
As a driver, you are not obliged to move onto the road edge or shoulder to let traffic behind you pass. Assess the risk before doing so.
Risk Factors
- A high center of gravity on machines increases the risk of tipping.
In the Event of a Traffic Accident
In the event of a traffic accident, collision, or damage to one of the company’s vehicles or machines, the immediate supervisor must be notified without undue delay. An accident report must always be completed.
The immediate supervisor must ensure that an Unwanted Incident Report (RUH) is created.
Reverse Parking
At Nordic Crane, reverse parking is practiced wherever practical. Exercise extra caution when reversing cranes and crane trucks. If visibility is insufficient, a spotter must be used.
