When working with a risk of falling from two metres or more, shared safeguards must first be chosen, followed by personal fall protection equipment.
Shared safeguards can be scaffolding, work platforms or other safety measurements that a worker is not wearing.
CONSIDER THE ASSIGNMENT IN ADVANCE
- Assess the need to work at height – can you do it in any other way?
- Plan implementation
- Equipment requirements
- Risk analysis – safe job analysis
- Rescue plan (documented, written down in e.g., SJA)
- Blockades
FALL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT (PERSONAL FALL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT)
Personal fall protection equipment is used where shared safeguards cannot be used or where the work is so brief that it is not sensible to install scaffolding and platforms.
RISING
- The ladder must be secured, stand on stable ground, and go at least one meter past the upper level.
- The ladder should also be visually checked to verify that it is safe to use.
- The ladder should not be used as a work platform, only access.
SCAFFOLDING
- When using scaffolding at the client’s premises, training must be provided in the use of the scaffolding in question. Contact the client at the construction site.
- The scaffolding must include a safe access and have necessary markings showing that it is permitted to use.
- Before the start of work, a risk assessment, or SJA (if necessary), must always be carried out.
