Checklist for lifting boats in marinas.
- Contact the Harbormaster or previously agreed contact person.
- Be assigned to the space where the crane will stand. Assess ground conditions together with the harbormaster/contact person, including where the heaviest boat is located.
- Plan and arrange who will act as the signaller and helpers. The boat owner must be present for instructions on where the straps should be placed. Be especially concise regarding the duties of the signaller.
- Helmets and high-visibility vests must be worn by everyone involved.
- Make a plan for lifting order and what kind of lifting equipment will be used. Avoid lifting above other boats. Consider whether yoke, chain and/or straps should be used, as well as the length of the straps. Note – there may be different lengths at the front and rear of the boat. If necessary, use steering ropes and fenders. Pinions should be set to the upper position.
- Write a safe job analysis.
- Inform everyone who’s involved about the crane’s work area and where people can stand—block off the area around the crane with caution-tape.
- The lifting can start.
